A simulated day on a 7.4 kW system with a 13.5 kWh battery, using today's real sunrise and sunset in San Diego.

The sun clocks out right when your house clocks in.

Panels make the most power around midday. Your home uses the most from 4 to 9 pm, when time-of-use rates on most San Diego plans are at their highest. Under California's net billing rules, power you send back earns little, so the smart system keeps its daylight for after dark.

Hatched faces get too little sun. The two round marks are a vent and a skylight, so panels skip them.

How we estimate (rough numbers, not a quote)
  • Your bill is all electricity at a blended $0.40 per kWh.
  • Each panel is 410 W. A south face makes about 1,600 kWh per kW a year in San Diego, a west face about 1,380.
  • Without a battery about 55% of your solar is used at home as it's made, the rest is sent to the grid at about $0.07 per kWh. With a battery about 92% is used at home.
  • About $20 a month of fixed utility charges stays on your bill.
  • Sample price: $3.05 per watt installed, battery $12,900. No incentives, no rate increases, no loan costs included.
  • Your real design uses 12 months of your actual usage, measured roof faces and a shade study.

One crew, from the first visit to the last bolt.

  • Our own licensed crew. We don't hand your roof to subcontractors.
  • Designed for net billing. Battery first when it pays, panels first when it doesn't.
  • Roof checked before we quote. Old roof? We say so, before you sign anything.
  • 25-year workmanship warranty. Every roof mount and wire we install is covered.
  • We do the paperwork. City permit, inspection and utility interconnection.
  • One fixed price. No leases, no escalators, no surprise change orders.

Sample quotes for this demo

"They told us to wait on panels until our roof was redone. Nobody else said that."

Marisol, Chula Vista

"Our evening bill used to scare us. Now the battery handles dinner and the dishwasher."

Dave, Poway

"Same two guys from the first visit to the switch-on. That mattered to us."

Keiko, Clairemont

From your bill to your first sunny day.

Most San Diego homes go from first visit to switched on in 6 to 10 weeks. Here is every step, and who does it.

  1. Day 1, about 45 minutes

    Free home energy assessment

We read 12 months of usage, measure your roof faces, check shade and open up your electrical panel.

  2. Within 3 days

    Design and one straight price

You get a panel-by-panel layout, a production estimate you can check and a single fixed price.

  3. 2 to 4 weeks

    Permits and utility paperwork

We file the city permit and the interconnection request. You don't chase anyone.

  4. 1 to 2 days

    Install day

Our crew mounts, wires and cleans up. Most homes are done in a single day.

  5. 1 to 3 weeks

    Inspection and switch-on

After the city inspection and utility approval, we turn it on and set up the app with you.

Is solar still worth it under California's net billing rules?

For most homes, yes, when the system is sized to what you use and the extra daylight is stored instead of sold back cheaply. That's why we design battery first when the numbers support it. The estimator above shows the rough math.

Do I need a battery?

Not always. If your use is mostly daytime, panels alone can pay off well. If your evenings are busy, or you want backup in an outage, a battery usually earns its place. We show you both prices.

My roof is getting old. What then?

We check it first. If it needs replacing in the next five years, we tell you and can coordinate with a roofer so the panels go on a new roof once, not twice.

What happens when the power goes out?

Grid-tied panels without a battery shut off during an outage for line worker safety. With a battery, your chosen circuits like the fridge, lights, internet and outlets keep running, and the panels keep refilling it by day.

How long does the whole thing take?

Usually 6 to 10 weeks from the first visit to switch-on. Install day itself is one day for most homes. Permits and utility approval take the rest.

Are there incentives?

Incentives change often. At your assessment we check what applies to your home today, and we never build a price that depends on one.

I rent. Can I still book?

Yes. The owner has to approve any install, and we're happy to walk them through the numbers with you.

What should I have ready for the visit?

A recent electric bill or your last 12 months of usage, and easy access to your electrical panel and attic. That's it.
