Scroll or drag the key

11:40 pm. The door just clicked shut behind you.

Keys on the counter. Phone at 30 percent. The porch light is on a timer. Shearline was built for exactly this minute, on exactly these stoops.

  1. A dispatcher in Hampden answers. Not a call center three states away. Someone who knows where Elm and 36th meet.
  2. You see the price before anyone drives. It lands on your phone, and it doesn't grow at the door.
  3. Your tech texts from two miles out. Then shows a Shearline photo ID on your stoop and checks yours.

He'll show his Shearline ID and ask for yours before opening.

Everything that opens with a key. And a few things that don't.

What kind of lock is it?

Tap the one that looks like yours. We'll tell you what it is, what it usually needs and roughly what it costs.

Just moved in? The last owner's keys still work.

Rekeying swaps the small pins inside your lock so every old key stops lining up. Your hardware stays. It takes about 10 minutes a door and costs far less than new locks.

    Try a key

The old owner's key lines up all five pins. Anyone holding a copy can walk in.

$69 visit, plus $22 per lock. We bring every door to one key while we're there.

Side view of the cylinder. Brass key pins sit in the plug, steel driver pins sit above. The key only turns when every gap meets the shear line.

Most lockouts are open within 10 minutes of the tech arriving.

    How a lockout call goes

    1. Tell us where you are

Call, text or tap the button. A dispatcher confirms the address, what's locked and how to reach you.

    2. See the price first

Your price is set before the van leaves and sent to your phone. It doesn't grow at the door. If the lock needs more than we expected, you decide before we touch it.

    3. ID, both ways

Your tech shows a Shearline photo ID. You show yours with the address, or a lease, utility bill or car registration. No proof, no entry. It's how we keep your neighbors' doors safe too.

    4. Back inside, no drilling

We pick or bypass first. Drilling is the last resort, and we ask before we do it. Then you get a receipt by text and email.

    The Shearline promise, engraved

    • Price before we roll

You approve a number on your phone first.

    • No open, no charge

If we can't get you in, you owe nothing.

    • Non-destructive first

Pick, bypass or decode before any drill comes out.

    • Photo ID on every tech

Background-checked, in a marked van, every visit.

    • Bonded and insured

Covered to $2 million while we work on your door.

Sample notes, written for this demo

Locked out at midnight with the dog inside. He was on our stoop in 20 minutes and the price was exactly what the text said.

    Kendra, Hampden

Rekeyed all four doors the week we closed on the house. Under an hour, one key for everything.

    Marcus, Lauraville

Lost the only fob for my car. He cut and programmed a new one right in the parking lot.

Questions people ask on the stoop

How fast can you get here?

In the city we're usually there in 20 to 30 minutes, any hour. Baltimore County and north Anne Arundel run 25 to 45. When you book, you see a live countdown and your tech texts from two miles out.

Will you damage my door or lock?

Almost never. We pick, bypass or decode first. Drilling is a last resort for a failed or high-security lock, and we explain the cost and ask before we start.

    What ID do I need?

A photo ID showing the address, or a photo ID plus a lease, mortgage statement or utility bill. For cars, ID that matches the registration or title. If your ID is inside, we open the door and check it before we leave.

Should I rekey or replace my locks?

If the locks work and you like them, rekey. It's cheaper and keeps your hardware. Replace when a lock is worn, sticky, cheap or you want an upgrade like a smart lock or a stronger deadbolt.

Can you make keys for newer cars?

Yes. Transponder keys, flip keys, smart fobs and push-to-start for most makes. We cut and program at your car, usually for less than a dealer and without a tow.

Why does late night cost more?

Between 8 pm and 8 am a tech is on call instead of on a route. The late-night price is posted on this page and shown before the van leaves, so it's never a surprise.

Which smart locks do you install?

Most major keypad, Wi-Fi and app locks for standard US door preps. Bring your own or we'll supply one. We set up the app, codes and auto-lock with you before we leave.

    Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Shearline is bonded and insured to $2 million, and every tech is background-checked and carries a company photo ID. (This is a demo business, so the license number in the footer is a sample.)

    Still standing on the stoop?

Call or tap. Someone in Baltimore picks up, day or night.
